Butte College Offers New Program to Help Students Succeed

Butte College is offering a new program known as the Puente Project, a national award-winning program that helps thousands of educationally under-served students enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn degrees, and return to the community as leaders and mentors to future generations.

The Puente Project was founded in 1981, and combines accelerated instruction, intensive academic counseling, and community leadership opportunities. It is a state-funded program that helps prepare educationally under-served students for college admission and success through its combination of accelerated instruction, academic counseling, and opportunities for community leadership. Puente is open to all students.

The mission of the Puente Project is to increase the number of educationally underrepresented students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities—and aid students in earning college degrees so they can return to the community as mentors and leaders to future generations.

“Butte College students who join the Puente program will have the opportunity to participate in a College Success course (CSL 20) and English courses (ENGL 2 & 11) that are taught by dedicated instructors with a focus on the Latinx experience.  Students will also have the opportunity to be a part of multiple critical skills workshops, conferences, four-year college campus tours and other cultural excursions.  Finally, Puente students will have the benefit of working directly with a dedicated Butte College counselor to help them be successful,” said Julio Delgado, Butte College Counselor.
